Industri Semikonduktor Sarawak

Industri semikonduktor kini semakin berkembang dengan pasaran global mencecah ratusan bilion dolar setiap tahun.

Menyedari perkembangan dalam industri semikonduktor dan reka bentuk cip, Sarawak mengorak langkah melalui syarikat milik Kerajaan Sarawak, Sarawak Microelectronics Design (SMD) Semiconductor Sdn Bhd dalam membangunkan industri tersebut.

Ketika menghadiri Majlis Perasmian Pusat Reka Bentuk Cip SMD dan Akademi SMD pada 26 Jun 2024, Premier Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg memaklumkan, plot seluas 10 ekar di Zon Perindustrian Bebas Samajaya telah diperuntukkan kepada SMD bagi mengembangkan operasi semikonduktor.

Premier Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bni Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg (tengah) dan Menteri Pendidikan, Inovasi dan Pembangunan Bakat, YB Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn menunjukkan papan tanda Pusat Reka Bentuk Cip SMD selepas beliau merasmikan pusat tersebut dan juga Akademi SMD

Beliau mengulas lanjut, inisiatif tersebut adalah bagi menangani peningkatan kepentingan teknologi pembungkusan cip termaju untuk cip semikonduktor berprestasi tinggi.

Langkah strategik itu akan membolehkan SMD untuk berkolaborasi dengan pelabur-pelabur dan rakan kongsi swasta dalam memupuk perkembangan dalam pasaran yang berkembang pesat seperti dalam kecerdasan buatan (AI) dan sektor automotif.

Menurut beliau, pembungkusan cip termaju akan membuka peluang penyelidikan dan pembangunan (R&D) seperti reka bentuk sistem, ciplet dan reka bentuk pakej yang akan mencipta peluang pekerjaan baharu bernilai tinggi untuk industri tempatan.

Usaha pengembangan itu akan menyerlahkan lagi dedikasi SMD untuk memupuk bakat dan inovasi sambil menekankan peranan pentingnya dalam memajukan industri semikonduktor.

Bukan itu sahaja, malah juga beliau baru-baru ini telah menyaksikan pertukaran Memorandum Persefahaman (MoU) di antara SMD dengan Compound Semiconductor Application Catapult (CSA Catapult) di Parlimen United Kingdom (UK).

Beliau positif terhadap perkongsian tersebut kerana CSA Catapult terkenal dengan pusat inovasi miliknya yang terletak dalam kluster semikonduktor kompaun di Newport, Wales dan komited untuk memajukan kepimpinan global dalam semikonduktor kompaun.

Premier juga menyatakan, untuk menjalankan kerjasama yang berkesan dengan semikonduktor kompaun, SMD perlu menyerlahkan diri dan menghimpunkan tenaga kerja dan jurutera berbakat.

Bagi tujuan itu, beliau berpandangan bahawa pejabat SMD perlu ditubuhkan di UK bagi memudahkan R&D dan aktiviti pengkomersialan dijalankan.
